Introducing the new ECR Representatives 2026-2027

Introducing the new ECR Representatives 2026-2027

The British Society for Neuroendocrinology recently welcomed our new Deputy ECR Representative, Dr Joao Cavalcanti De Albuquerque (pictured). The new ECR Representatives are now:

  • Dr Joao Cavalcanti De Albuquerque, ECR Representative
  • Dr Matt Higgins, Deputy ECR Representative

Joao took over from Dr Miguel Ruiz Cruz last month as the ECR Representative and Matt now takes over as Deputy.

We asked Matt why he decided to apply to become Deputy ECR Represetatives and what he hopes to bring to the BSN community:

Why did you decide to apply to become the BSN Deputy ECR Representative?

I have been a member of the BSN since 2022 and have really enjoyed the opportunities I've had to connect with other members, both virtually and in person. Having recently started my postdoctoral career in the UK, I felt this was a great opportunity to become more actively involved in the Society and give something back to a community that I've really enjoyed being part of. During my PhD, I was involved in organising postgraduate retreats and research symposia, and I enjoyed creating opportunities for ECRs to meet, share ideas and build connections. I hope to bring some of that experience to the BSN while helping to support and represent other ECRs across the neuroendocrine community.

I'd like to help create opportunities for ECRs to connect with one another and with the wider BSN community, while ensuring that ECRs have a voice within the Society and that their experiences and priorities are represented.

What do you hope you'll learn from and bring to the BSN community as an ECR Representative?

I'm looking forward to learning more about the work that goes on behind the scenes to run the BSN, and from the experience and perspectives of senior members of the Society. I'm also excited to connect with other ECRs and learn about their experiences, challenges and aspirations. I'd particularly like to help create opportunities for ECRs to connect with one another and with the wider BSN community, while ensuring that ECRs have a voice within the Society and that their experiences and priorities are represented.

Welcome Matt, we look forward to working with you to make ECR voices heard and represented within our Society.
