Biography
Dr Isadora Clivatti Furigo did her bachelor’s in Health Sciences, Master in Anatomy and PhD in Human Physiology at the University of Sao Paulo-Brazil. She has worked in several projects in the fields of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology. During her post-doc in Donato’s lab in Brazil she has described for the first time the role of growth hormone in the brain to control metabolism, among other publications addressing the action of some metabolic hormones such as Growth Hormone, Prolactin and Leptin on the Central Nervous System. She performed another post-doctorate in Ozanne’s lab at University of Cambridge, where she studied the effects of maternal obesity to the development of the offspring’s brain.
She has won the Michael Harbuz prize in 2021, which recognizes an outstanding member of the emerging generation of neuroendocrinologists, an award of Society for Endocrinology, given to the best papers published in Journal of Endocrinology in 2020, and an Award for best project of the 19th International Symposium on Neuroendocrinology, Society of Neuroendocrinology and Metabolism in 2018. She has just been awarded with the Early Career Grant from Society of Endocrinology and 2 trailblazers fellowships to supervise PhD students.
Nowadays, she is Assistant Professor in Coventry University, and her research aims to study the brain areas involved in the control of metabolism in normal and imbalanced conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, and pregnancy. Her currently interest is to investigate the role of prolactin in the brain regulating the maternal adaptations to pregnancy and lactation.
