Biography

I am a mid-career researcher interested in how the brain controls physiological adaptations during pregnancy. I studied Biochemistry at UCL before moving into a PhD in neurobiology at the University of Aberdeen, supervised by Prof. Lora Heisler and Dr Dave Lyons.

My PhD introduced me to neuroendocrinology and to the BSN, where I have felt very welcomed. I then moved to the Centre for Neuroendocrinology (CNE) at the University of Otago to work with Prof. Dave Grattan on prolactin and its functions during pregnancy and lactation. While in the CNE, I also worked with Dr Rosie Brown and Assoc. Prof. Stephen Bunn. I now lead my own group within the CNE, investigating how hormones act on the brain to regulate autonomic functions during pregnancy, including temperature and respiration. Later in 2026 I will be moving back to the UK to start a position as Assistant Professor at University of Warwick.

Throughout my career, I have been a strong advocate for supporting early career researchers and students. Having spent a substantial portion of my career on contracts spanning only 2–3 years, I know the toll this can take on your life and mental health, so any support tenured academics can provide is vital. I’m very aware that I am not an expert in what makes a successful academic career, but I’m happy to share my experiences and have a chat.
